Paris Saint-Germain Edges Marseille in a Shootout to Claim French Season-Opening Trophy in the Middle East.

Trophy celebration scene

PSG has now claimed the prestigious cup on fourteen different occasions.

The Parisian giants required a dramatic leveler followed by a perfect spot-kick decider to overcome their arch-rivals in Kuwait and secure a fourth straight French Super Cup victory.

The Champions League holders seemed to be sailing towards a straightforward triumph in the match between the Ligue 1 champions and the French Cup winners after Ousmane Dembele found the net in the opening stages.

However, Marseille struck two times in the closing moments to seize a surprise lead. Initially, the English forward converted from the spot-kick, before Willian Pacho unfortunately directed the ball into his own net for an own goal.

In a breathtaking twist of events, the Portuguese striker snatched a crucial equaliser in the final seconds to send the contest into a penalty shootout. PSG goalkeeper Chevalier then emerged as the key figure, stopping crucial kicks from O'Riley and Hamed Traore.

In the shootout, Goncalo Ramos, the midfielder, Nuno Mendes, and Desire Doue all scored successfully for Paris Saint-Germain to complete a convincing shootout victory.

The record champions Paris Saint-Germain, who met last season's Ligue 1 runners-up Olympique de Marseille after achieving a domestic double, have now lifted this competition for the 12th time in the last 13 years.
